Balanced Canine was founded in 2004. We are a 3 acre dog ranch in South Surrey. Balanced Canine saw the need to develop a comfortable place for dogs to stay that provides a safe, clean and cozier alternative to the traditional kennels. We are an in-home style Boarding Ranch with a Training Studio for our group classes and Private Lessons. All our staff is passionate about the care, safety and training of all our dogs, providing a warm, welcoming environment for them. We have clients from all over the Lower mainland that travel great distances to Board with us and take our Training Classes. We have many long term clients from the White Rock/South Surrey community that are very loyal and appreciate each and every one of them.
Balanced Canine offers Boarding, Board & Train, Group Classes, Private Training and Doggy Daycares on Fridays.
Shelley Zayonce: Owner/Founder, Professional Certified Trainer
Shelley has the experience and connection with dogs that allows her to consistently shape good behaviour and then pass that knowledge along to their owner. Obedience, leash training, house training, raising a puppy, aggression issues are all common issues she can help you with, but she has also helped to rehabilitate many dogs whose owners were at the end of their rope and turned to her as a last resort.
- Graduated from Canada West Canine Center as a Certified Master Dog Trainer and Kennel Manager/Obedience Trainer top in her class
- Owner/Operator of one of Vancouver’s top daycare, grooming and training facility for 5 years
- Trained and titled three dogs in French Ring Sport, including titling the only Border Collie to Ring 2 in North America
- Member in good standing with the White Rock / South Surrey Chamber of Commerce
- Member in good standing with the Canadian Association of Professional Dog Trainers
- Currently dabbles in training and learning the very demanding sport of Schutzhund with her up and coming German Shepherd Dog, with intention to compete and title
- Currently competes in French Ring Sport with her Malinios
- Currently competes in CKC obedience with her Malinios and German Shepherd Dog
- Teaches specialty seminars at Balanced Canine Training and Boarding Facility
Shelley’s life revolves around dogs and thoroughly enjoys the opportunity to share her training expertise and techniques with her clients. She strives to see a happy and healthy relationship between dogs and their owners through training, trust and respect.
Jen McLean: Certified Professional Trainer
Jennifer’s love for animals started at a young age, and has continued on throughout her life, and continues to this day. Her interest in working with dogs, was inspired by
the arrival of her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Riley 9 years ago. She began to train him in competition obedience and agility, and that is when her true passion emerged.
Jennifer has been working with dogs for over 6 years, in many different capacities, and has apprenticed with many very accomplished trainers. Jennifer has excellent dog handling skills, and has an extensive background in competition obedience. Her cavalier Riley has been the number two cavalier in competition obedience in Canada for two years in a row.
Since attending Canada West Canine Center, where she became a Certified Master Trainer, Jennifer has been pursuing her dream of working with dogs, and helping to strengthen the bond between owners and their dogs. Jennifer also spends a great deal of time attending many seminars and workshops to continue to expand her knowledge, and to continually evolve as a trainer.

Otto Vom Leurshof
Otto is a 8 year old dark Black & Tan GSD. Otto is a strong, serious, sharp courageous boy who is an absolute pleasure to work. He is often our demo dog in our classes and works along side Shelley on a daily basis. He is also the father of Shelley’s new Puppy Jeager.
Jeagerbomb Vom Haderhof
Jeager is our newest canine addition! He is a son of Otto and is a wonderful little puppy. He is a drivey, happy outgoing puppy and is Shelley’s newest competition prospect. Watch out for him in our classes demoing and following in his daddy paw-steps at only a few months old!
Switch (HIC, FR1) – Top Guns Switch (aka: the Poops)
Switch is a 3 year old Malinios. He’s currently competing in French Ring and CKC obedience. I hope to achieve his Ring 2 this year, so we so can play with the big kids at Ring 3 next year. He’s a fiery guy with more drive and energy you could imagine. He’s a social, happy little Mal and is an absolute pleasure to train. You will always see Switch when you arrive for boarding or daycare, he’s part of the greeting crew here at Balanced Canine! You will also see Switch in our obedience classes showing the other canines how it’s done.
